§ 26-31. International fire code adopted.

  • (a)

    Purpose. The purpose of this section is to adopt the 2006 International Fire Code and its appendixes as promulgated by the International Code Council, Inc. as well as all future amendments so that the adopted code is always the most recent International Fire Code available.

    (b)

    Adoption.

    (1)

    The city adopts for the purpose of prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire, hazardous materials or explosion, and for all other relevant purposes, that certain code known as the International Fire Code, the 2006 version together with its appendixes, and all future amendments and versions of the International Fire Code. The adoption and retention of such code is made by this section.

    (2)

    The city hereby adopts the State of Michigan rules for the storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids promulgated by the Michigan State Fire Safety Board, and the Michigan Underground Storage Tank Rules, as adopted by the State of Michigan.

    (3)

    In addition to the definitions set forth in the International Fire Code, the following definitions shall apply:

    a.

    Wherever the word "jurisdiction" or "name of jurisdiction" is used in the International Fire Code, it shall be held to mean the City of North Muskegon.

    b.

    Wherever the words "code official" are used in the International Fire Code, they shall be held to mean the fire chief or, if that position is vacant, the position of acting fire chief for the City of North Muskegon.
